My theater last weekend got a film that was in very limited release for one week, but now it's opening in more theaters this weekend and then nationwide on Christmas Day. That film is "Up In The Air" starring George Clooney, and I saw it this week on my off-day, and then since then I've been watching it during my breaks, and other opportunities when possible. I love this film!!

In a nutshell, Clooney plays a downsizing-expert who flies around the country, firing people from different companies & corporations, and so he spends most of the year flying. His goal is to reach a certain amount of miles, but when he's called back to his base of operations, his work tries to implement a new system that will no longer have him "up in the air" and just when he is happy earning his miles and just when he met a woman who also spends a lot of time flying everywhere. It's a great romantic-comedy/drama that I recommend people see when they can. ^_^

Watching the film reminds me of my trips to anime/comic conventions each year, and even though I'm a looong ways off to earning 10,000,000 miles in my one airline account, the film has given me incentive to go to cons in 2010, and flying to those cons like Anime LA, Ohayocon, Katsucon, Sakuracon, Otakon, when possible (funds and getting time-off.)

I don't mind being "grounded" for now, but once these holidays are over, i'm ready for the new year of cons!

Looking at airfares tonight, I saw a one-way fare from SFO to Seattle for only $39, so i bought it, confirming that SakuraCon 2010 is a GO!!

Once again, I'm sorry that i won't be able to make it to WonderCon this year, but you will have fun there, and I will have fun at SC, yesh?

I'll arrive into Seattle around 9:00am on Thursday and should be at the con by 10:30am.

Now to figure out WHERE i'm going to stay, but at-least this is a good start in planning for one of my favorite cons each year.

As much as I've enjoyed going to Ohayocon since 2002, I may have to skip this year, even though I don't want to break my streak of attending for 8 consecutive years. If the convention were at the beginning of January, then I'd go but this year I'm attending Anime Los Angeles (ALA) and then originally going to Ohayocon at the end of January, and then Katsucon 2 weeks later.

But calculating costs for Ohayocon, it's around $275 currently round-trip from SFO to CMH, and then an additional $100+ for hotel (rooming with friends), $50 for registration, and food & transportation, total cost is about $450+/- And then the costs for Katsucon would be about the same, so i'd rather use the $$ to go towards Katsu, and possibly towards my next con in March, either AnimeLand Wasabi or MegaCon.

I'll miss seeing friends I only see once per year at Ohayo, and meeting new cosplayers, but costs & asking for time-off from work are more important. I hope everyone who goes understands my situation, and has fun at Ohayocon 2010!

It's not 100% certain that I'm cancelling on Ohayo, but chances aren't looking good.
